Artist statement: Point Lobos is a magical place on the Pacific coast near Monterey, California. A mix of weather- and tide-worn sandstone, severe cliffs and hauntingly beautiful forests, it has provided inspiration for generations of photographers. This image provides a confusing scale of one small section, presenting a unique opportunity for study.

Artist statement: Minor White was a creative photographer who shared his work and techniques generously, instructing others to break down boundaries of perception and discover new connections with the visual world. This portrait was taken at MIT in 1974, two years before his death. His work and teachings will be long remembered and appreciated.

Mystery and beauty can be discovered in every direction that we look. As Henry David Thoreau once stated, “It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see”. I still manage to discover overlooked and often unseen snippets of beauty within the small, natural worlds that still survive in my area.
