Artist statement: Heavily influenced by natural materials, I often starts with a wooden board instead of a traditional canvas. Using bold brushstrokes and plenty of Linseed oil I play with familiar shapes and light to create different personas. Using a combination of materials and textures, my fashion and textile inspired artwork aims to capture the outward beauty and the inner mysteries of human beings.

Observer

Pip Shepley
$475.00

Artist statement: As an artist, my job is to pay attention. Not to the objects themselves, but to the way the light glows, pools, and defines. To capture the nuances that create a sense of time and space. A state of grace emerges in the quiet mystery of dancing light. The unknowable which resides beyond, the unseen subject. A promise? The gentle light offsets the solid physicality of the scene, as in a cathedral.

Artist statement: “Painting gives me a sense of freedom and peace whether I’m outside with nature or in the studio painting a memory. I find inspiration in almost everything but am recently inspired by memories of my childhood growing up in the country. I am drawn to light, shadows, and atmosphere. When I choose to paint a subject, it’s moved me in some way or another. I hope that my work will awaken an emotion in the viewer as well.“
Specific medium: Pastel
